Get started with the Baha 5 Smart App


One of the great things about a direct-to-device connection between your Baha 5 Sound Processor and iPhone is that you can discreetly control it, without anyone noticing. You’ll just blend in with everyone else who use their iPhones, in the grocery store, waiting for the bus, waiting for someone in a restaurant…

The Baha 5 Smart App lets you personalise your listening experience. You can quickly and easily change programs, adjust volume and even play around with the treble and bass. You can save custom settings for certain locations and get help finding your sound processor if you misplace it. All done via your iPhone!app-store-cochlear-baha-5-smart

So let’s get started!

First, you need to download the Smart App. Just click here or on the icon and it will take you directly to the App Store:

Then, you need to pair your iPhone to your sound processor:

  • Ensure your Baha 5 Sound Processor is turned OFF by opening the battery door
  • On your iPhone, turn on Bluetooth under Devices
  • Go to Settings > General > Accessibility >Hearing Aids
  • Turn ON your Baha 5 Sound Processor by closing the battery door. It’s now discoverable for 120 seconds.
  • Tap the name of your sound processor, once it appears
  • Accept pairing request

If your Baha 5 Sound Processor is paired, has a live battery, and is turned on, it will automatically connect once you start the Baha 5 Smart App. When the app is connected for the first time, it may need additional time to read required data from your sound processor.

All done? Great!

You can now change volume, programs and check your battery status – all discreetly done via your iPhone!

  1. My iPhone 5 is paired with my phone clip and device but I can’t get the app to connect it just keeps searching. I have tried different ISP but still it won’t connect. I can use the demo. Any ideas?


    • Hi Margaret.
      It is difficult to know the exact reason for this. There could be a conflict with the Phone Clip, it could be that you have upgraded to iOS10 since you first paired your sound processor, or it could be something else. To determine what the cause is, and be able to provide the best advice, I would need to know more.

      What you could do is to start over, and also exclude any possible interference with the Phone Clip during the pairing sequence.

      1) Start by turning off your Phone Clip and uninstalling the Baha 5 Smart App.

      2) Then, on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing devices.
      Your Baha sound processor should be listed here. Tap on it and select “Forget this device”
      3) Restart your iPhone (long press the hard off button along the right side of your phone)
      4) When your phone starts again, go through the sound processor pairing sequence again, making sure you await both audible pairing confirmations.
      5) Download and install the Baha 5 Smart App and go through its connecting sequence.
      6) Start your Phone Clip and await its audible connection confirmation.

      If this all works, you should be up and running, and you should not need to go through these steps again.
