Inside the Baha 5 Sound Processor

So, how was it done? How did Cochlear develop the world’s smallest sound processor that delivers all the power and the same sound quality as larger sound processors? Because although the Baha 5 Sound Processor is 20% smaller than comparable devices, it still delivers the same power output as the industry-leading Baha 4 Sound Processor.

Among other things, this challenge required the engineers at Cochlear to develop a totally new transducer technology – BCDrive™.

Tommy Bergs, Principal Mechanical Engineer at Cochlear Bone Anchored Solutions, explains:

“With BCDrive we are able to design and produce transducers that are more than twice as efficient as the traditional design. That let us reduce the size of the Baha 5, without losing the power the sound processor needs to let you hear better.”

  1. I want to second what Amanda said here. Is there any hope for the BAHA Power users? Given there is no answer to Amanda’s comment from April, the answer seems to be “No” or “Ignore.”

    • Hi Paul (and Amanda),
The new Baha 5 Sound Processor is the first member of the Baha 5 sound processor generation which will include more powerful options as well as new form factors. All of these sound processors will benefit from the same advanced signal processing, true wireless streaming capabilities and connectivity to smartphones and apps as the Baha 5 Sound Processor. It is difficult to provide dates of commercial availability for future products for many reasons, however, we strive to release these new innovations for commercial use in the shortest time possible. We recommend that you speak with your hearing care professional to determine the optimal timing for upgrading your current hearing solution and hope that you will be in a position to benefit from the Baha 5 Sound Processor technology.

  2. Hello, I was wondering if you know when the Baha 5 power is going to be released? Us power users are feeling left behind because you came with Baha 4 then went you straight to Baha 5 ( NO Baha 4 Power for us). Amanda

  3. hi i queried whether the BAHA5 processor could possibly be attached to a COHLEAR CP920 NUCLEUS 6 as it appears to be more functional in appearance to the user ,i am aware it is a different system to what i use ,but maybe could be adapted to use with it
    regards Richard
