I lost my healing cap, what should I do?

Question: Hello,  I had the abutment placed yesterday.  There is a white disc covering it, but it has fallen off. Is this something I need to contact drs office immediately for? //Diane

Answer: The disk that has fallen off is the healing cap. Its purpose is to hold the wound care dressing in place after surgery. Each surgeon has their own wound care preferences and recommendation for how long patients should wear the healing cap. You should contact your surgeon to determine if they want to reattach it, however it is not an emergency. You can contact your surgeon during normal clinic hours.
